Starting in FY22 ITS rolled out the UM-Research Computing Package. A first step in a change of strategy that gave researchers HPC, Storage, and Archive resources at no cost to do what they need without focusing on IT. We will cover the results of this and how utilization of the HPC and storage jumped 46% and 100% respectively while only giving away a very small fraction of the total.
Overall utilization of HPC and storage resources, for machine learning, imaging, statistics, etc. jumped drastically in a user-beneficial way allowing them to focus on their research, and demonstrated how investing into IT for research enabled significant benefits in data management on campus.
